Digital Advisor: July 2010

Did you know that OSHNA has been providing digital copies of our award winning Advisor newsletter for over a year now? This month was our first trial run at releasing the Advisor to a small group of members who were interested in saving paper and postage. The 17 megabyte file was a little large for some mail services and was rejected. We will will be working on ways to resolve that issue. However, as always, you can click-to-download your own color copy of the Advisor from the Advisor committee page. Click here to get started and thank you for reading our newsletter and patronizing our sponsors.
OSHNA Advisor: 2009 Winter Issue

The 2009 Winter issue is now showing up in mailboxes. If you'd like an electronic copy, you can download one from the Advisor committee page.
Civic Association Elections by Sherry Simons
The September 2009 NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS, the newsletter of Southeast Seminole Heights Civic Association, carries an article by the Association President Sherry Simons. In it she describes what it’s like to be a volunteer and to hold office in a Civic Association. This article touches the heart of volunteerism. It is frank, perceptive, and sensitive and suggests ways that the community can support their Association and their volunteers. With her gracious permission OSHNA has reprinted her article for its members and friends.

The Learning Center
Where children and families shine
The Learning Centers of Tampa Bay are offering Summer Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) classes beginning June 8, 2009.
If your child will be 5 by September 1, 2009, and has not attended a VPK program during the school year, he/she is eligible.
Classes will be held all day at no cost to parents.
Please pass the word to people you know who may be in need of VPK this summer to prepare their child for kindergarten.
Call for submission of Mini-Grant proposals
(Updated)The Hillsborough County Neighborhood Mini-Grant Application 2010
is coming due in July. These are $1500 grants. Each Neighborhood Association can fill out one application per calendar year. So for that reason, the OSHNA Board will have to select one project. Those wishing to apply for the grant need to submit to the Board in writing, the name of the project and a short description. The easiest is to just answer the Evaluation Criteria. The Office of Neighborhood Relations awards this grant to the Association and the Association, in turn, distributes the awarded grant.
Grants must be turned in by June 9th. The selection will be made at the June executive board meeting.
