Current predictions for the 2011 Hurricane Season:
- 12 to 18 named storms, 6 - 10 of which will be hurricanes
- 3 to 6 of those hurricanes will be major, category 3 or higher
Now is the time to plan for tropical storms and hurricanes if you haven't already. Check your hurricane supplies, especially batteries, to make sure everything is fresh and ready. Make sure you have a full set of prescription medicines if you need them. If you have pets, plan for them as well.
If you have a pool, store a few bags of shock and shock your pool prior to a storm. Tip: waterproof patio furniture can be tossed in the pool where wind cannot pick it up and throw it.
Have some cash on hand prior to a storm. Banks and ATMs cannot operate without electricity.
Charge your cell phone and be sure to have some sort of weather radio available--one with a power crank is convenient should the power outage last longer than your batteries.
Don't use candles to light your home during a wind storm! This is a fire hazzard.
