What is the election committee?
The election committee is called into being at the third quarterly membership meeting, handles the election which takes place at the fourth quarterly membership meeting, and is automatically dissolved once all activities having to do with the election are completed. This process is set forth and governed by Article V of the OSHNA bylaws, a copy of which is at the end of this guideline.
What does the election committee do?
• Accept nominations
• Check with the nominees to be sure they are willing to serve.
• Prepare a sample ballot.
• Mail the sample ballot to members two weeks before the next general meeting.
• Furnish the newsletter editor a sample ballot for publication in the October issue.
• Conduct the election and count the ballots.
• Announce the results.
• Turn over a written report of the results to the secretary.
• Notify any candidate not present of the results.
Who is the election committee?
I () am the current chair of the election committee. I have spent my career in Information Security and have experience in protecting confidential data. As this process goes forward I will be selecting a co-chair. This co-chair selection will be made from a diverse selection of OSHNA members. To select the co-chair, I will follow the same rules set forth in the by-laws for the selection of the chair. This person will accompany me whenever ballots are handled to verify (1)the chain of custody and (2) that the ballots are properly secured. The co-chair will also share responsibility for counting ballots. I may also bring in additional people on the election day, or the day prior, to assist in ballot counting and verification of membership.
