Dear residents of Old Seminole Heights,
I am looking for architectural bits and pieces (molding, part of a window shutter, doorknob, porch railing, etc.) that I could use for the sculpture I am creating for the Garden Center green (see rough sketch below).
It would be great to have architectural details from the surrounding neighborhood. The criteria is that the fragments are recognizable as "house." For example, a piece of 2x4 wood is too anonymous -- a corner of a window frame, a porch column, bit of picket fence, etc. would work.
The column will be about four feet high, so I don't need big pieces. I will first construct an armature, and then with clay and plaster I'll model the column and will work the architecture and tools into it. A mold will be made of the sculpture, and then it will be cast in stone (reinforced concrete). The "bird woman" on top is ready for its mold.
Thanks in advance for your contributions to this project. Please contact Greg Barnhill at 813.310.5705 to arrange for the pick up of the donation of the architectural fragment that may be utilized in the final design.
I'd like to imagine some of you looking at the finished sculpture and recognizing a part of your house there, or seeing the representation of all the work so many of you have put into restoring this beautiful neighborhood.
