Last night we held our July eating meeting. The main course was chicken marsala and vegetarian lasagne from Reservations To Go. Ever since they moved into the area our eating meetings have gotten tastier. There were over 70 people in attendance and folks were enjoying themselves. The pot luck was quite a spread of good food too. Several new members joined that very evening--perhaps due to the incredible cooking.
We did not quite make a quorum for the purposes of voting on the bylaws and so we spent some time answering member questions. The question of whether to hold a special meeting in August to vote on bylaws or merge it with elections in October was put to the assembly and the overwhelming majority favored a special meeting. The board of directors will meet out of schedule and work out the details. The membership will be notified within the next two weeks.

Doreen Jesseph, chairperson of the Information & Outreach committee summarized the OSHNA survey results to date and a member drew a name from those who took the survey (and chose to identify themselves) for a $50 gift certificate to a local business. The member will be contacted this week and she will get a choice of participating businesses. We have chosen to leave the survey up for the rest of the year and we will have another drawing in October. If your neighbor or friend does not use a computer and would like to participate they can request a paper copy of the survey. The contact information for the Board of Directors is in the masthead of every Advisor. Call one of us on the phone and request a copy.
Dierdre Welch, Trustee and chairperson of the "Garbage Collection" committee was introduced. The fact that OSHNA has such a committee was a little humorous in the beginning, but the the discussion that followed engaged the members. The City's Solid Waste department has declared that all alleyway garbage pick-up will stop and everyone will use the large blue bins in the front of their home. A significant number of residents are upset about this for various reasons including difficult access to the front of their home due to retaining walls and stairs. Dierdre sat patiently at the front of the hall most of the night filling up a page of signatures on a petition to preserve our alleyways.
The new Elections committee chair was announced as Chad Daughtrey. Chad has held this position twice before. There will be a set of policies crafted to better define the elections process and help it run smoother this year. Chad will be working on these policies with his years of experience to guide him. There was an open call for election committee members. This is traditionally a small committee of around four persons. If you would like to be on the committee, contact Chad at elections@OldSeminoleHeights.org.
Thank you to everyone that attended and especially to the new members that chose to join last night. See you in August.
