Sent from TPD District II:
Det Bishop with our District asked me to get the word out about a possible fraud that is emerging in various communities in the Hillsborough County area. It appears that a group of individuals are presenting themselves as "Verizon" or "Brighthouse" employees. These individuals are going door to door, their intentions are not know at this time. Neighboring Law Enforcement agencies have a few documented cases were citizens called in to report suspicious behaviors of individuals entering their neighborhood and going "door to door" under the above pretenses. To our knowledge, there have not been documented crimes, however let this e-mail serve as a important reminder.
- Always check and verify the identity persons attempting to engage you at your home.
- Don't open the door, speak to them through a closed door or window until you are certain of their purpose.
- If someone's behavior makes your feel uncomfortable...listen to that instinct...call the Police and have the person checked out. This can be accomplished by calling 9-1-1 or non-emergency Police at 231-6130.
Thanks for your help in getting the word out about this subject.
