Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) classes

The Learning Center
Where children and families shine

The Learning Centers of Tampa Bay are offering Summer Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) classes beginning June 8, 2009.

If your child will be 5 by September 1, 2009, and has not attended a VPK program during the school year, he/she is eligible.

Classes will be held all day at no cost to parents.

Please pass the word to people you know who may be in need of VPK this summer to prepare their child for kindergarten.

Call for submission of Mini-Grant proposals

(Updated)The Hillsborough County Neighborhood Mini-Grant Application 2010
is coming due in July. These are $1500 grants. Each Neighborhood Association can fill out one application per calendar year. So for that reason, the OSHNA Board will have to select one project. Those wishing to apply for the grant need to submit to the Board in writing, the name of the project and a short description. The easiest is to just answer the Evaluation Criteria. The Office of Neighborhood Relations awards this grant to the Association and the Association, in turn, distributes the awarded grant.

Grants must be turned in by June 9th. The selection will be made at the June executive board meeting.

OSHNA Donates to Community Gardens

At Monday's General Membership meeting, OSHNA gave away two thousands dollars of the home tour profit. One thousand went to Seniors in Service, five hundred went to Hillsborough High School, and five hundred went to our new community garden organization.

New Trustee Voted onto Board of Directors

OSHNA would like to welcome our newest board member, Kacy Curry. Kacy has served on OSHNA's board in the past and will make an excellent addition to the board this year. Kacy was also the Highways and Byways chairperson for several years and recently has been focusing her efforts on the Form Based Zoning efforts.

Saying Goodbye

On 05 April 2009 the OSHNA Board accepted, with regret, the resignation of Trustee Tommy McNeeley from the Board and as Chair of the Neighborhood Involvement Committee. Tommy is known to many of us for the exciting and vibrant ideas he brought to the revitalized Porch Party Events and his continuing efforts to build membership. Tommy cites, as reasons for his resignation, personal commitments and his career as preventing him "from dedicating the time and effort required to fulfill my duties".
